Roztochchia is the main European watershed on the territory of Ukraine, the source the big and small rivers. Zhovkva is a town, history of which started from the great desire of Hetman Stanislav Zholkevskyi to build an “ideal town”. The heart of the town was a castle. Entrance gate, St. Lawrence Church of the 17th century, wherein the gravestones of Zholkevski and Sobeski Families preserved, the Dominican Monastery, the Holy Trinity Church and Renaissance styled synagogue amplify the ensemble of the town. Krekhiv – is known as an ancient Basilian monastery, located at the slopes of Roztochchia. According to the legend the monks of Kyiv Pechersk Lavra Joel and Sylvester, who had retained the rocky monastery with the cells and salubrious spring, were the founders of the monastery. Later stone buildings were built. Bohdan Khmelnytskyi visited this monastery in person, and half century later Russian emperor Peter I had been here. The architectural complex is supplemented with the wooden church, its fortified walls and towers bear a strong resemblance to the medieval castles, and cells – to the palaces over Laura.
